Family Preservation Social Worker (Oakland)

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The Family Preservation Program provides intensive home-based services to Oakland families referred from Alameda County’s child abuse/neglect hotline.

JOB DUTIES:

In coordination with the Clinical Supervisor, develop and implement the joint services plan in collaboration with family members and Alameda County Social Services Agency. Provide a range of home-based services to families including, but not limited to:

  • Participating in outreach to families and assessment of families. Supporting parent/caregivers as they learn effective parenting skills. Modeling appropriate infant and childcare. Promoting healthy parent/caregiver and child relationships. Assisting in the development and implementation of the family’s service plan, in coordination with the Clinical Supervisor. Linking families with community resources (e.g., housing, medical). Providing supportive counseling, advocacy and crisis intervention. Assisting families with meeting basic needs (e.g., food, clothing). Supporting families as they learn household management and budgeting skills. Assisting in accessing health and mental health services. Participating in program meetings and trainings. Maintaining timely and thorough case records and program statistics.
  • Entering data into centralized database.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mental health, social work or related clinical field preferred. Experience with families and children may be substituted. Experience and willingness to provide hands-on, intensive, home-based services. Experience and comfort in diverse communities. Flexible schedule, including some evening availability. Must have respect for cultural differences, and families’ rights to self-determination.
  • Requires California driver’s license, a clear DMV record and an insured automobile, in good working condition.

STARTING SALARY RANGE:

$32,960 - $37,595 DOE (Full time = 37.5 hours/week). Excellent benefits including health, dental, vision, and life insurance plus retirement plan. Dependents and domestic partner coverage available.
